RS Portable mailing list insightBy Chris Williams. Published: 3rd Feb 2003, 23:50:43 | Permalink | Printable
"Mailing list, huh. What is it good for?"In order to write a follow up to our previous article on the RiscStation laptop mailing list, we were interested to see what was being discussed or revealed on the customers-only Yahoogroups hosted list. We're just plain nosey, you see. If you subject yourself to the comp.sys.acorn.* newgroups then you'll probably already have read this but in case you missed it, here's what laptop customer and mailing list subscriber Kell Gatherer revealed to comp.sys.acorn.hardware regarding the long awaited portable. And in case you wondered, Kell has no connection to RiscStation other than he's a customer.
"The portable has been delayed, yes", reports Kell in his own words. "News about the portable was also delayed, so they came up with this beezer idea of creating a mailing list that is only open to those that have paid for their portable, or paid a deposit. Here, it was stated, those who have paid their deposits 'can get info from RiscStation, ask questions, get answers and generally fun things like that' ."
Oh well, at least they're keeping customers informed, no?
"The mailing list is full of postings along the lines of 'Any news?' and 'When do I get one?' " Kell continues. "The only postings from RiscStation have been from 'RiscStation Software Support', a.k.a. Paul F. Johnson. Paul has said useful things like 'There have been a number of problems along the way that have delayed the machine. Unfortunately, more than that, I cannot say at this time.' Scintillating stuff, and just what we needed to hear."
Whatever you say Kell.
