Redundancies at Cambridge Pace office

This isn't strictly speaking, RISC OS news, but it's still of interest.

We heard yesterday, from several employees at Pace's Cambridge office, that there would be mass redundancies at that site, in order to implement cost cutting measures. This isn't entirely suprising, as Pace's recent performance has been less than inspiring, and has probably been in the pipeline for some time.

Pace owns RISC OS, and their Cambridge office was formerly the home of Acorn. Pace still employs many ex-Acorn people who will be affected by this.

We don't have any more information on this as this stage, except to wish the people affected good luck in finding new employment.

I'd just like to say:

All job offers gratefully received... ;)

It's the end of an era for a lot of us here....

What were the ex-Acorn staff working on at Pace? Something other than NCOS/ RISCOS? Because it seems not too many recent Pace products use it

I go past the site most days and there's a big 'for sale' sign outside. I assume it means it's all going. Very sad all in all but not too unexpected. I wish all involved the very best over this dark period.

I blame Alan Sugar and Peter Bondar - but hey, at least Chris Cox is safe.

Hold on, I seem to be a couple of years late. Or am I?

I blame the strong pound. How is UK to compete with an overpriced sterling? Can't hang onto this British is best attitude, not with the current climate :-(

Perhaps I'm just looking for a silver lining - but with Pace so battered at the moment, aren't they likely to be selling off excess baggage - any chance of buying back the RISC OS rights for close for what they went for originally (about 200k wasn't it?)

Ha ha ha ha!

Crikey, it's almost worth being laid off for a chuckle like that.

Don't count your chickens.

Perhaps those made redundant can now write software for the RISC OS community. We could do with upgrades for Java, Javascript and Flash.

I'd be willing to: for 100K+ per annum. I'd need some compensation for working on a dead OS after all.
