Cerilica tout April Vantage update By Chris Williams. Published: 8th Apr 2003, 21:28:27 | Permalink | PrintableEnd of month release, stabilise, rinse and repeat We've been passed a copy today of Cerilica's statement made yesterday on the article7 hosted Vantage mailing list which outlines Cerilica's short and long term plans. Unlike most press releases, it starts off on a low note and ends on a high note so hold tight.
The first order of business is the departure of founding and marketing director Nick van der Walle, leaving co-founder and technical director Simon Birtwistle to manage the company. The company is also relocating to Liverpool, UK and email is now the prefered method of end user support as telephone support has been dropped. drobe.co.uk would like to wish Nick the best of luck in the future.
"We will miss not only his good humour and excellent presentation and support skills", writes Simon speaking of Nick, "but also his distinctive style, creative imagination and unique grammar and spelling".

Next is news of significant Vantage developments hopefully kicking off at the end of this month. Vantage is Cerilica's flagship graphic design application aimed at publishing types and here's what this humble web rag and Acornuser thought of it [our review]. Simon, in the email to the Vantage mailing list, states that version 1.10 of Vantage will be released at the end of this month, "regardless of the status of the new features such as drop shadows".
The current road map appears to be:
- Release version 1.10
- Stabilise Vantage
- Release Iyonix compatible version
- Release stand-alone renderer
"Previously I have maintained a single source, so new features and bug fixes happened at the same time", Simon continues, explaining Vantage development. "This resulted in the latest version always being faulty in some new way, and so Cerilica was not keen to release it."
Well, you've got the reins now Simon. While a number of users on the application's mailing list gave thumbs up to Cerilica's latest announcement, Iyonix users should stay tuned for news on 32 bit compatible versions of RiScript and Vantage.
