Demon ate my email says R-Comp

Resend, if you know what's good for you

Major service glitches this week within UK ISP Demon, emanating from a catastrophic series of power failures at their Finchley NOC, have hit RISC OS dealer and software publisher R-Comp, we're told today. Yeh, yeh, this story has 'roundup' scrawled all over it but it is a matter of urgency and R-Comp seemed quite insistent that the web rags cover it. So insistent in fact, riscos.org published their article twice.

If you sent R-Comp an email last week, R-Comp recommend you resend it again seeing as they are hosted by Demon and naturally worried that they've lost mail. Really, this goes for all Demon hosted companies and individuals but before you all resend every mail you've sent this week to Demon users, consider that Demon's systems are probably still under load.

"Apologies to all concerned", R-Comp adds in their statement, "we are obviously concerned about not being able to rely on emails arriving, and will monitor things closely!"

Looking at Demon's status page, right now their mail and routing systems have oh so reassuring red circles next to them so things still appear to be unwell.

Perhaps they need to be buying some email services from an ISP that doesn't just bundle it as a service free with dial-up? :)

Demon customers pay more than enough for their email - it's not like Freeserve et al. The Freeserve model shows that 0845-style dialup calls are "free", and one would hope that Demon's subscription charges paid for a reasonable infrastructure and service. Leased line and large commercial service customers suffered in exactly the same way - they must be fuming!

Demon have lost the plot big time. I've moved the stdevel.co.uk email away from them, however I too have lost mail at the start of the latest debacle - I've not used Demon for dialup for years. Of course the fax-email service has also suffered, but is a great tie-in - I have to pay them UKP140/year or re-publish and re-provision fax. :(

I still have to use Demon for dial-up (we have always-on ISDN - the broadest band always-on you can get where we live at a reasonable price.)

I've never trusted Demon with my mail. That's one of the reasons we started an our own ISP!
