Clares classics relaunched

ProAction at the helm

Isn't this a coincidence? R-Comp relaunch DataPower 2 (a resurrected Iota database app) and the very next day APDL's software arm, ProAction, start waving ex-Clares RISC OS software about too.

Titles that ProAction absorbed late last year, namely ProArtisan 24, Topographer, Spooler and Schema 2, have been dusted off, rebadged and are now on sale from APDL we're told. If you don't already know these golden oldies, here's what they are:

ProArtisan 24Acorn User award winning bitmap graphics package
TopographerGeography based educational app with an emphasis on maps
SpoolerBackground printer buffer and queue
Schema 2A spreadsheet app. A macro manual is being put together - don't over do yourselves lads

Stop press Astronomy package NightSky has also been added to the list of new ProAction owned software.

Drop APDL a line if you're interested. While support for classic titles is all well and good, one assumes ProAction are wisely investing cash from these sales to fund development for new and up to date software for RISC OS users and the same goes for R-Comp too. You know it's panic time when publishers start fighting over a re-release of the View ROM.

--Are any of these rereleased programs suitable for the lyionix or are they still 26 bit only?

Going by APDL/PA's previous rereleases, these will certainly be 26-bit only. But we can expect they're thinking about upgrading them to 32-bit if possible.

Of all of them Topographer is most worth any investment. We have other art packages, Schema was always awful (IMHO), and Spooler is okay for the legacy stuff, but I've got a print server on the network which removes most of the problem anyway.

Schema is a very good program IMO, Shame I never got round to using it though :(

On the subject of Schema, didn't a macro manual already exist?

*scurries around upstairs a bit*

Hm. If a macro manual already exists, why put a new one together? -- Andy.
