Oregano 2 sweetens RiscPC, A7000+ salesBy Chris Williams. Published: 28th Apr 2003, 16:48:59 | Permalink | Printable
Buy a browser, get a RiscPC freeIn a bid to most likely boost sales of rebadged Acorn hardware, Castle Technology have today announced that they're shipping copies of their web browser Oregano 2 with all new Risc PCs and A7000+'s as well as the XScale powered Iyonix computer range.
It was just last month that Oregano 2 was officially launched to punters and Castle are keen to push their web browser further into the RISC OS market.
Oregano 2 is developed by Oregan Networks and the browser itself is "based on Oregan Networks' multiple platform 'TV Interactor' browser, already delivered for products like Sony's Playstation2", we're told by Castle. They also stress that as Oregan develops their TV Interactor software, updates will filter down to RISC OS end users.
With their 32 bit Iyonix computers selling well enough (we don't actually have any real clue on exactly how well they're selling), Castle are probably searching for ways to push their stocks of 26 bit computers out through the door. And of course, are we going to hear of rival RISC OS web browser developer(s) complaining that Castle are now bundling their browser (and just their browser) with every machine they ship? Castle's strong position in terms of hardware and the bundled Oregano 2 can only draw the Suffolk based hardware company closer to being 'the next Acorn'.
