"Building upon the work done in Select 1 and 2, Select 3 improves upon both the significant changes made to both the graphics and networking components as well as adding many new features", RISCOS Ltd. state in their emailed bulletin, forwarded this afternoon to drobe.co.uk by a reader. "The focus on Select 3 has been mostly based around stablising features from Select 2 and improving the desktop usability of the Operating system."
Major highlights include the new ability to highlight text in writeable icons to enable clipboard cut and pasting; The RISC OS Filer now also features a thumbnail view mode for graphics files; !Paint has been overhauled; alpha channel sprites are now supported at OS level and the OS also includes a recycle bin to catch file deletes. New driver to read and write large USB storage devices
Jeff Doggett has ported a library to create a RISC OS module that can access USB-based FAT32 storage devices greater than 2GB in size, such as memory sticks and Flash cards. Jeff said: "This is just a filing system module - there is no desktop front-end or anything user friendly. It's version 0.01 which should give you some idea that you should try it first on a test drive before letting it loose on anything valuable."
