Major Variations
Variations website
Rob Davison has dropped us an email to say he's updated his most excellent Variations application to version 0.20. Variations allows you to apply a multitude of visual effects to images, including fades, shape masks, borders, colour and brightness correction and now a pointillist effect (see left insert). Other updates include the ability to scale and move thumbnails and simple image transformations.
 Combine multiple effects in Variations
There's various screenshots that show what you can do with Variations, this one is Rob's favourite. It's also Iyonix compatible and to be honest, the impatient will need one as some of the effects do take their time even on a StrongARM RiscPC.
Rob is also author of commercial graphics package Composition.
Back it in
BackIt website
Backup utility Back_it by Stuart Halliday, best known for Acorn "5000 hits a day" Cybervillage, has been updated to version 1.62, following user feedback. According to Stu, Back_It is a "backup program that works in the background to allow you get on with your work whilst your data is backed up, verified and checked."
In brief
Website monitor app NetWatch can now check if a webpage has been updated without needing to download the whole file. Transfer2 tries to out run the global clipboard. Finally, AMPlayCMD enables command control over MP3 playback frontend AMPlay
