Viewfinder plugin and patches are back, plus more [Updated 05:18 27/5/2003]It's the weekend, it's time for the news that didn't quite make the headlines.
Viewfinder plugin, patch back
Ian Jeffray's VFSetup and Justin Fletcher's VFPatches are back online this weekend and available again for download. VFSetup aids Viewfinder graphics card users in configuring their Viewfinder hardware. VFPatches allows third party software to select screen modes provided by the Viewfinder card.
It's been some time since Windfall Engineering's Viewfinder card was in the headlines.
We've learnt over the Bank Holiday weekend that developer Windfall Engineering have issued version 1.53 of the Viewfinder firmware (the one you pay for) and version 1.50 (the free version).
RISC OS Select specific theme
Select Silver theme
Select 3 user Michael Gerbracht has "created and 'stolen' some sprites to create a blue-silver looking desktop". Combining the new iconborder effects of Select 3 and suitable brushed metal textures, Mike's zipped up all the collected goodies into a Select Silver theme for users to try out.
Look out for an article on specifically customising Select, soon.
Chris Bazley can't sleep at night as he's worried people are using an old version of his funky ScreenGrabber utility that has a habit of corrupting the RMA (which is a Bad Thing™). Instead, users should immediately upgrade to version 2.08.
Earlier this month, Iconbar reported on RISC OS being used in automated telephone systems. Perhaps if one or two RISC OS companies were using it, after picking up the phone, we could expect to hear, "Press 1 to hear this month's excuse, press 2 if you're from Drobe so we can stick you on eternal hold, press Internal error: abort on data transfer at.., press 5 if you wish to order, or alternatively hang up now if you're expecting an ordered product to turn up..".
Finally, this is something we don't recommend because Google Groups never forgets a rant, Stuart of Stuart Tyrrell Developments has been venting some scalding steam on usenet by spelling out the Simtec vs. Castle USB situation.
