May round up By Chris Williams. Or air conditioning. As May rounds off for another year and June beckons, here's some bits and pieces that didn't make the headlines.
RISCOS Ltd. have reiterated on the Select user mailing list that Iyonix users longing for Select on their 32 bit XScale powered machines should subscribe now to indicate their level of interest, as well as provide RISCOS Ltd. with the financial resources to Iyonix-ify Select.
"RISCOS Ltd was set up to ensure that everyone in the RISC OS market gets an equal chance to support and maintain their businesses, whilst RISCOS Ltd continues to develop the core operating system. That is still our goal", Paul Middleton, managing director of RISCOS Ltd., told the Select user base, adding that Iyonix-ifying Select would be a "major effort" due to the differences in the low level internals of RISC OS 4 and 5.
Next, the RISC OS C information site now features an RSS feed for GCC news, library updates and project and site news. In addition to this, the Unix Porting Project also has an RSS feed for news of new or updated ports and other related news.
Moving right along to more casual stuff, we face another Attack Of The Silly eBay'ed Acorn Kit. Get that 32 bit minty freshness with some golden era Acorn branded mints or perhaps spend this Summer sporting RiscPC or ART themed badges. Between you and me, we're holding out for the tissue Chris Cox used to dry his tears on the day of Black Thursday, or perhaps Stan Boland's autobiography, 'Stanley: ARM made me do it'.
Love it or hate it, the OS manual for the essential RISC OS programming resource StrongHelp is now RISC OS 5 aware in its documentation of OS APIs and features. Also for developers, Harriet "Sister of Chris" Bazley has unleashed a new version of SideDiff, a desktop interface to diff. Erik Groenhuis has released a module for third party programmers who need to conversions and calculations on dates in their software.
The HTML import filter for OvationPro by Rick Murray, OvHtml [direct .zip link], has been updated. Despite being virtually internet-less for over a year (sounds like some kind of religious fasting deal), Rick's also sneaked out a new version of his teletext software. Malcom Ripley's image gallery generation app Thumbcat has enjoyed a vast number of enhancements. Finally, John Kortink has updated his DiscInfo, ModeInfo, GreyEdit, Zerilink and Translator software.
