Business as usual for RISCOS Ltd.By Chris Williams. Published: 5th Jul 2003, 22:25:22 | Permalink | Printable
Select prepares for Iyonix migrationThat's the message from RISCOS Ltd. this weekend following the news of Castle Technology acquiring RISC OS from Pace.
"I would like to assure everyone that it is business as usual for RISCOS Ltd, Select, our AMS's and purchasers of RISC OS 4", RISCOS Ltd.'s Managing Director Paul Middleton told the 'Bar following Friday's news.
"We are continuing with all our plans for Select. The final version of Select 3 will be released shortly, and we fully expect to be able to include some of the current Select features for Iyonix users in the next release."
So that's good news for Iyonix users with a Select subscription. This is also probably the first time RISCOS Ltd. have cautiously but nonetheless publically stated that at least some parts of Select are ready for the Iyonix. It's also, of course, good news for other Select users who may be worried about what the change in ownership of the OS will mean for the subscription scheme.
The RiscPC is approaching its 10th birthday and it's assumed RISCOS Ltd. will be keen to see their OS continue and getting it injected into newer hardware is crucial; the Iyonix is particularly attractive with its much talked about XScale processor, and the MicroDigital offerings too when they materialise.
Paul also added that the RISCOS Ltd. shareholders will be briefed ahead of a public statement to be issued during the next week.
