Aemulor 2.2 upgrade online By Chris Williams. Published: 5th Aug 2003, 01:46:48 | Permalink | Printable'How it works' article reveals Aemulor insides are made of code, not magical 32bit elves Aemulor.com have informed us this morning that Aemulor 2.2 is now available as a free upgrade to registered users from their website. A demo version of Aemulor 2.2 is also available for download and a new documentation section is also now available online.
In the new documentation section, you can find a copy of the software's manual and a very geeky but still informative article on how Aemulor works and the basics of processor emulation. The technical document, published first in Foundation Risc User, comments that future versions of Aemulor may be able to try different optimisation techniques on different 26bit applications and learn which optimisations work best and therefore in future stick to the best optimisations for each particular 26bit application.
For the unaware, Aemulor is an application that enables existing 26bit mode RISC OS software to run on 32bit mode only computers. This means users of the 32bit XScale powered Iyonix can use Aemulor to run legacy 26bit software. In many cases, Aemulor acts as a lifeline to users of RISC OS 5 who want to continue using old software that, for one reason or another, can't be made 32bit compatible or are awaiting 32bit compatibility updates. A database of known 26bit software supported by Aemulor is online here.
Aemulor.com's Neil Spellings stated that Aemulor 2.2 "sees over 30 enhancements to Aemulor, including improvements in emulation, bug fixes and User Interface enhancements; many of which are suggestions and results of feedback from existing users."
The Aemulor team, now starting a summer break, have pencilled in a Q4 release for Aemulor Pro. There's also reportedly an easter egg hidden in Aemulor and the first person to find it wins a free upgrade to Aemulor Pro.
