Digital Camera Access from Surftec: New DigiFlash systemBy Chris Williams. Published: 26th Oct 20:45:54 | Permalink | Printable
Surftec, a favoured provider of the latest internet and similar technologies, has launched their new product, DigiFlash. This new system opens up a new and exciting way of allowing RISC OS users to read data from CompactFlash and SmartMedia cards from devices such as Digital Camers, PDAs etc.
There are two versions of DigiFlash, one for CompactFlash and the other for SmartMedia.
Once the adapter has been plugged into the parallel port and the software has been loaded, DigiFlash adds an extra disc icon to the left side of the iconbar allowing files to be copied from the media just like a floppy disc! The media can even be shared across an Acorn Access network, ideal for use in a classroom environment.
The reader allows other devices to be plugged into it, such as printers, meaning no swapping of cables required!
DigiFlash requires a RISC OS machine with a bi-directional parallel (printer) port; this allows almost all Acorn machines (including Acorn Network Computers) except Archimedes range and the A3000. The reader software has also been put through extensive testing.
Prices are as follows:
CompactFlash Reader and DigiFlash Drivers: 79ukp exc VAT
SmartMedia Reader and DigiFlash Drivers: 79ukp exc VAT
DigiFlash Drivers: 39ukp exc VAT
The above readers also come with their original Windows PC drivers.
