World stats, music, CVS and more

round up motifLet's get cracking. James Bursa has released EarthData, a geographical database. Users can look up information on any country on our mere planet and the software used to be sold through APDL on a CD, apparently.

The RISC OS port of CVS by John Tytgat has been updated to fix spurious directory creation and have better support for weird Unix filenames. CVS is a version control system for developers.

Dave Watson, man of a thousand themes (give or take 996), has created a very cool new skin for Oregano 1 that mirrors Apple's Safari web browser. The theme has a brushed metal style and subtly curved buttons.

Mmm, shiny

Also, version 2.56 of DigitalCD is now out. DigitalCD can handle playback for a crazy range of digital music formats and the biggest new feature is support for streamed MP3 and Ogg Vorbis Internet radio.

I like the sound of MP3 and Ogg streaming in DigitalCD. All I now lack is a connection that means I can get a decent quality stream.

Excellent piece of software, it also ensures my hard disk is crammed with mp3s and my speakers turned up full blast.

Thought I'd give this a try, but I can't make any sense of the Internet instructions, and don't know what I'm trying to achieve, really. Having looked at the sites, I can't see anything I want to listen to anyway. Is this a sign of age, or something?

  • How to convince more websites to work with the RISC OS Firefox port
Although the Firefox port for RISC OS can access far more websites than any other web browser on the platform, it's still locked out of some sites because it doesn't declare itself as Firefox to web servers. Here Paul Stewart explains how to make the port tango with more picky websites.
