riscos.us up for saleBy Chris Williams. Published: 20th Nov 2003, 07:44:21 | Permalink | Printable
Make something useful out of itThe
riscos.us domain name went up for sale yesterday after its current overseer Peter Naulls decided it deserves more attention than just merely gathering digital dust on a virtual shelf somewhere.
"I'd purchased riscos.us some time ago, without really having any good ideas as to what to do with it, and it's been sitting idle since", Peter admitted in his announcement.
"It's therefore time to find it a better home. I'm not asking for much - any small offer may do. If you can't afford much, then including a paragraph on what you intend to do with the domain may improve your chances over higher bids".
There's a few obvious uses for the domain, which is registered through directnic.com. One idea is a website for USA based RISC OS users, thus going along the same lines as riscos.be, which is a site for Belgium users. Alternatively, the domain could be used for a general community related site, focusing on the "us" bit. The site could be a hefty yet searchable online database of people in the RISC OS world that lists their skills, geographical location and a brief biography. This would be useful when you might want to put a name to a face or find out what else a particular software author has done, for example.
There's a catch, naturally. .us domains may only be owned by individuals who are either US citizens or US permanent residents. The eventual purchaser will also pay for any transfer costs incurred.
