CJE Paints The Town By Peter Naulls. Published: 20th Nov 2003, 21:08:29 | Permalink | PrintablePaintPal Deluxe Available with 32-bit upgrade CJE announced today that they'd made an agreement with Paradise over the distribution of PaintPal, a 512-level, 5" x 4" graphics tablet for use on RISC OS. We first covered the PaintPal when Paradise released it back in 2001.
The PaintPal table can manipulate the pointer, to allow you to use it in place of the mouse for drawing. In programs like PhotoDesk, it can take advantage of the pressure levels for different densities and thickness of drawing. In addition, it also has a transparency overlay for tracing.
CJE have priced their limited stocks of PaintPal at 69UKP including UK delivery, which includes the RISC OS software which has been updated to 32-bit. If you've purchased your PaintPal elsewhere, then CJE are also selling the software by itself for 30UKP.
Finally, existing PaintPal owners can get the 32-bit upgrade freely by contacting CJE. This enables the tablet (which interfaces to the tablet via a serial port) to be used on Iyonix. The downside is that, because the tablet is powered from a PS/2 adapter, which the Iyonix lacks, you'll have to connect it to your RiscPC or other machine to power it. This may be acceptable for some users.
CJE are also offering a standalone PSU for the tablet, which you should contact them about. In the not too distant future, to avoid this issue, CJE hope to offer a USB tablet, but no date has been set for this.
