The passing of community friends

By Chris Williams. Published: 15th Jan 2004, 22:40:36 | Permalink | Printable

Goodbye Iain, Martyn and George.

Regrettably, we must report on the recent passing of Iain Truskett, Martyn Fox and George Foot. As we're all very much aware, our platform is made up of many kind hearted people who contribute time and effort to our small community. Their work, we shall be ever grateful for and our sincerest thoughts and profound condolences go to their families and friends during these difficult times.

Iain Truskett, 1979 - 2003
Iain sadly died on December 29th, last year. Iain's work included various RISC OS applications and his contribution to the StrongHelp manual project, a huge, freely available document library for RISC OS software developers.

Martyn Fox, - 2003
Writer of RISC OS books and a major contributor to Foundation RISC User, Martyn Fox sadly passed away in late November, last year. Martyn was working on a second edition of his first book, A Beginner's Guide to Wimp Programming, when he died.

George Foot, 1914 - 2004
The author of RISC OS' BCF cryptosystem and an enthusiastic member of the Surrey and Sussex Acorn User group, George Foot, sadly died this month. SASAUG chairperson John Sawer said George "will be sadly missed."

It is a deep shame to see the passing of these people. My thoughts are with their families.

It would be a pity to let Martyn's rewrite go to waste. Does anyone know if the project can be taken over?

Indeed, very sad. It begs the question as to how many children are born into using RISC OS these days?

It is hard to see someone pass away at such a young age as Iain. Reminds us how fragile each single life really is.

BTW, maybe drobe should make a copy of his site available, so that his work is not lost? I imagine it will vanish once his ISP account is cancelled.

Martyn also had a knack for asking intelligent, incisive questions or comments on Argonet.zfc
