APDL hunts for coders By Chris Williams. Published: 31st Jan 2004, 23:16:46 | Permalink | Printable32bit or bust APDL have this weekend called for programmers to help them convert their amassed software catalogue to be 32bit, and therefore Iyonix, compatible. Hired programmers will also work on improving APDL's software titles and should be particularly competent with C and obviously producing RISC OS software.
The announcement, released by APDL's software arm ProAction, fails to mention whether or not the programmers will require an Iyonix but we'll assume it's highly advantageous if they have one, particularly for testing purposes. The London based dealer will also happily pay for programmers' work, an encouraging move which should attract coders while implying there'll be development costs that'll be pushed onto users. Paying for much needed upgrades shouldn't be too painful, right? Nothing like stimulating development.
APDL's software catalogue grew considerably when it absorbed Clares' classic yet aging range of titles. In August last year, APDL shied away from the prospect of making their collection Iyonix compatible. After public pressure, ProAction clarified its position by saying it would make its software 32bit compatible provided it made financial sense. The fact that APDL are willing to hire people to convert and update their wares is therefore reassuring.
