Hard Disc Companion and loads moreHere's a gentle round up of software news that's built up this month.
APDL's Hard Disc Companion software is now Iyonix compatible and existing users can upgrade to the 32bit safe version for a small fee. The new version supports long filenames and F+ format discs, can generate log files more rapidly than before and also includes general updates to the user interface.
Craft your web pages and HTML from scripts using Gavin Wraith's updated Weave utility. Media rescue tool DiscKnight, developed by Dave Ruck of the ARM Club, is up to version 1.45 after a series of bug fixes. Wake up slumbering computers on your local network from your RISC OS desktop with the newly released WakeUp from Dave Higton. WakeUp, distributed under the GPL, is suitable for use with computers with a 'Wake-on-LAN' capability, which at the moment excludes current RISC OS machines. Version 0.99 of David Llewellyn-Jones' shareware, light weight email client TapirMail (pictured) is now available. This new release includes MIME decoding, a simple address book, SMTP authentication and other bits and pieces.
Theo Markettos has ported a number of tools from the popular PuTTY family to RISC OS, including pscp and psftp which are useful for secure file transfer over networks and the Internet. Printer driver master Jonathan Briggs has produced a driver for the HP Deskjet 5650. StarFighter 3000 gamers are also treated to a bug patch, available free of charge online.
Also, all of the following software enjoyed updates and new releases recently: file searching apps Locate and TextSeek, spam filter BogoFilter, the Risk game resources, Dr. Wimp utility DrW2HTML and the amusingly titled development aid NurseW, web search tool RiscSearch, online gallery creaters Webgen2 and Thumbcat, Roger Darlington's MP3 toolbox and crazy Japanese doll 'puzzle' game MakeKISS (pictured; not one for the kids, if you know what we're saying).
Finally, we were going to mention the fact that Matthew Price has produced a straight forward networking guide for RISC OS users with Windows XP machines, but unfortunately he's been forced to pull down his archez.co.uk website, blaming heavy traffic filling up his bandwidth quota. We specifically blame the unbelievably huge screenshots he had in his guide - maybe someone ought to put together a ChangeFSI tutorial? Check back later when Matt's sorted out his hosting.
