Castle tweaks T'n'Cs By Chris Williams. Published: 20th Feb 2004, 15:05:53 | Permalink | PrintableNice Mr. Trading Standards Castle Technology, the developers of the XScale powered Iyonix and RISC OS 5, have this week tweaked and updated their Terms and Conditions of sale to consumers, which you can read here.
Using the power of archive.org, Castle's previous T&Cs from 2002 and 2003 are online if you want to see what's been changed. The section most updated, as announced this week, is the returns clause: customers can now cancel any order before delivery or within a seven day period after they get it. After that seven day period, it's up to Castle if you're allowed to return an item. Suffolk Trading Standards have confirmed that Castle's T&Cs are all hunky-dory.
Around this time last year, a reader approached drobe.co.uk to say they had contacted Trading Standards officials to complain about Castle's then T&Cs. When asked if this had anything to do with this week's announcement, Castle's MD Jack Lillingston told us: "Not really, we had already started a review of our T&Cs. Suffolk Trading Standards have helped enormously in this complicated area.
"There are all sorts of legal issues, this is just one example for distance selling: If a supplier tells the customer that he or she has a 7 day cooling off period from delivery, then that is fair. If you don't then this is extended to 30 days from delivery by law. So fair terms and conditions are good for the consumer and the supplier. A cooling off period provides for a full refund, by law."
