Expo2004 offers guided toursBy Chris Williams. Published: 5th Mar 2004, 07:33:44 | Permalink | Printable
The show can waitThe Big Ben Club are currently busy organising the Expo2004 show, to be held this June in Utrecht, Holland. While many RISC OS users from the European mainland and the UK will hopefully flock to the event, the Big Ben Club have thoughtfully planned ahead for those people who will also be travelling to the area and would prefer to experience Utrecht's rich architecture and culture, rather than another conference hall full of excitable RISC OS users. Seen one Iyonix, seen them all, surely?
The Club are willing to provide a guided tour of the city during the morning of the show day, provided there's sufficient demand, with the tour guide being a local resident who was born in Utrecht and therefore knows the place inside out.
"The tour offer is a new element at the Expo so it's a try out. It should not be too much of a worry for me, organising the Expo itself is just enough," joked event organiser Aad Bezemer.
"I noticed last year several [RISC OS users'] partners were going into town by themselves and that gave me this idea. So it is just for partners and family who have seen enough shows, but would like to see something from Holland. With this year's experience, we will see what will happen next year."
Utrecht is known for its architecture, canals and the Dom tower. There's also an old monastery, footie club and university. One review describes the city as "one of the fastest growing cities in Europe but still retains an oasis of tranquility compared to Amsterdam which is only half an hour's train ride away."
The Expo2004's exhibitor list includes the usual faces: Castle, RISCOS Ltd., Desk, X-Ample, Aemulor and CinoDVD team, Archive, MW Software plus Ray "Dr. Wimp" Favre.
