After drobe earlier this month highlighted long-standing concerns about out-of-date websites, a quick visit today revealed that Acorn Cybervillage has been given a new lease on life by David Bradforth - an established member of the RISC OS scene, having made many publications available.
As for the CV's content and layout, it currently retains its slightly bland yellow layout, and we hope that there might be a make-over in store in the near future. David's style is brisk and easily readable, which may well appeal to readers looking for a quick news fix compared to the more comprehensive round up we like to offer here on drobe. And if we were trying really hard to fault its content, we might point out David's confusion of Mb vs MB.
Sadly, rival (if we can realistically use that word) news sites MyRISCOS and riscos.org don't seem to have the same enthusiasm, with the former only being updated a few times a month and still falling into the trap of quoting verbatim press releases, and the latter, despite repeated promises for site maintainer Paul Vigay, is still displaying news from last year.
Meanwhile, drobe's main rival site, The 'Bar is being updated at least on a more consistent basis than last year, although we still have some reservations about its content - lack of white space in articles sometimes makes them difficult to read, and all too often, its layout means that if two new stories are put up in succession, the second one is obscured. Perhaps it's time for TIB to review their layout.
drobe.co.uk looks forward to friendly competition from Cybervillage - but don't expect us to let our guard down any time soon.
