Work on database package DataPower 3 has begun, says its adopted developer Alan Wrigley.Alan, the man behind other R-Comp titles including Hermes and Grapevine, said Datapower 3 development will be "incremental". He told users: "This will probably be an incremental development programme with releases along the way so there will be opportunities for feedback from users as things progress."
Calling on punters to offer feature suggestions beyond those already on the wishlist, he added, "I'm starting with scripts. I already have OLE editing of scripts in an external editor working and I will be looking next at increasing the range of events that can be handled."
Alan later admitted that his plans for Datapower are currently unclear, as apparently "picking your way through over 5 megabytes of someone else's code is not easy". Publisher R-Comp confirmed today that although some preparatory work was done earlier in the year, "this project started properly once Alan arrived back from holiday, a few weeks after Wakefield. At this stage there isn't very much (if anything) to really say, other than that it is being worked on."
Initial suggestions from users include faster searching of databases and scripting ideas. R-Comp took over the database application from Iota software in February 2003.
