Version 2.3 of ROX-Filer, a project to bring RISC OS mannerisms to the Unix desktop, has been announced. This release sees a wealth of updates to the user interface and file type handling, a number of bug fixes and also the addition and tweaking of several translations.
As a filer for Unix compatible operating systems, ROX-Filer's user interface is based on the familiar RISC OS desktop. It supports metaphors such as application directories, drag-and-drop saving, popup contextual menus, a pinboard and a panel similar to the RISC OS iconbar. It also throws in features such as image thumbnail, keyboard shortcuts and search facilities.
Interestingly enough, it's also been shown to run on a Familiar Linux powered iPaq.
