We literally heard about this one on the Grapevine

If you're anything like this editor, you'll enjoy chatting away to friends over the internet from your RISC OS computer. However, even if you're new or oblivious to this addictive and strangely entertaining form of instant communication, you might be interested in an announcement that rival news site iconbar.com reported on today. We're, of course, refering to the announcement of R-Comp's latest commercial internet application, Grapevine. Iconbar were seemingly lucky enough to get an exclusive press release via email; drobe.co.uk will have to try harder in future to win the attention of the obviously busy R-Comp. See you at the Wakefield 2002 show guys, maybe we could buy you some coffees.

Grapevine is indeed a new chat client for RISC OS users and its aim is to enable users to chat to one another in real time, like a phone conversation. According to iconbar.com, Grapevine currently supports MSN Messenger and IRC with AOL and Yahoo to be supported later. Continous development is also promised and you can expect copies to be on sale at this coming Wakefield 2002 show.

To be honest, drobe.co.uk is impressed and mildy amused by this announcement given that RISC OS already has an MSN chat client and far too many IRC clients. Despite Grapevine being a commerically priced application, R-Comp seem confident that their all-in-one client will attract users new to the online chat scene and that they'll be able to, in time, support the complex Yahoo and AIM protocols. Best of luck.
