Of course... however, is there any chance that there are any more special features brewing?

According to this: [link] David Holden had left RISCOS LTD back in May, can any one confirm that?

Yes, Aaron and Dave are no longer directors. Aaron hasn't been for some time.

Excellent new articles about Micro Men. Thanks. Reminds us why we already miss the old Drobe so much :-(

I enjoyed the programme, despite the obvious sexing up of the situations. It managed to present an exciting time in computing history in a way that would seem exciting even to non-geeks.

And it was funny too :-D

I wonder what the real characters thought?

I loved it, and am really glad it was made, although I would have thought the tube would have weighted business side for the BBC Micro over the QL?

em2ac: I wonder what the real characters thought?

Come to the ROUGOL meeting on 16th November and you can ask one of them! Steve Furber will be there talking about the creation of the BBC Micro and ARM.

I thought it was hilarious; it helps to have great characters like Sir Clive and Hermann Hauser to stir things up.

I don't mind doing the odd special feature from time to time, when the right opportunity arises, but I just can't find the time or energy to do day-today RISC OS news, sorry..

I hadn't noticed Sophie's cameo in the pub :)

Personally I thought the pacing at the end was fine, though it felt rather rushed at the start, skipping over a number of details that could have set up the relationship between Curry and Sinclair a bit better. But once the film entered the home computer era it really kicked up a gear.

This film, and the recent featuring of a BBC Micro on Electric Dreams make this a good time to get a little nostalgic about the good old days ;)

Definitely. Though if we get new articles to The Archives with the same frequency that we have since its inception, I think I could live with the new version ;-).

So what's the real reason behind Peter Naulls trying to close down the ArcEm project on sourceforge and file the source away on his own personal website?

[link]

Luckily, no one agrees with him (including the other project admin): [link] [link]

Surely having a resource for source code for the platform (FF, PC Card, ect) in one place is better for those needing to locate it? just like drobe is effectively a personal site viewed under the same eyes, which also hosts other peoples content, which they themselves manage. As long as there is a fall back procedure so that should something happen to Peter / he no longer wish to fund the site, that it be able to be transferred anyone wishing to step up? Afterall he said he was looking into all options presented, and if you look at the other 'product databases' out there, RISC OS.info appears to be updated the most?

I don't buy it. I think it's OK to rescue orphaned projects and place them on something central like riscos.info, and it's OK for riscos.info to mirror a project if the source/binary licensing allows. But in the case of ArcEm, the source wasn't lost or orphaned - it was readily available from sf.net; there's little reason to close that down - unless the project as a group consented to it. Mirror or link to it, sure.

it's not quite the same, but, as a similar example, I couldn't imagine TIB copying the contents of the drobe.co.uk sub-domains onto its own server and then urging drobe users to remove said content from drobe.co.uk.

All IMHO.

Pretty fair response me thinks! :@)

Not knocking Drobe as I used it (and apparently still do) every day! :@)

Ack, I had a syntax era in my message board code, so things went a bit weird yesterday. Should all be OK now.
