The Beginner's Guide to RISC OS: A Valentines story for the RISC OS Explorer 2 release

By Chris Williams. Published: 10th Feb 22:42:46 | Permalink | Printable

Once upon a time, there was a RISC OS developer called David Bradforth. His company ProAction created a CD to introduce new RISC OS users. It was stuffed with content and the second edition was released recently to coincide with the RISC OS Southwest show.

Yesterday David got into a conversation with his girlfriend.
'Darling', she begun voice shaking as though she was really upset at what she was about to say. 'I don't know how to say this...it's really rather difficult.'
'What is it?', I replied knowing exactly what she meant.
'I can't.... it's too difficult'.
'It's okay - I know what you mean.'
'You do - that makes it soo much easier'.
'You're having trouble with RISC OS, aren't you?'
'What?'
'You'd like some help in fully understanding the inner workings of the desktop, wouldn't you'
'Huh?'
'Try RISC OS Explorer, ProAction and APDL's latest release into the beginners market. It's a CD of resources, together with an optional printed guide. There's a whole lot there on DTP, Design, RISCOS/Windows/MacOS comparisons to make coming new to RISC OS easier, games, OCR and a whole lot more'.
'Actually that wasn't it...'
'What is it then?'
'I've met someone else...goodbye.'
'Ah....'

And so David returned to his computer waiting for somebody to create Dating Explorer for RISC OS. While he waits you will be pleased to know that Explorer 2 features information on DTP, OCR, drawing, games, education, internet, programming and the utter basics, (supplied in Ovation Pro and web page format). Amongst the articles you will also find utilities and programs to help you along the way. All on a CD for £20, (£10 for a separate book). David would also like to wish you all a happy Valentines day.
