Iyonix and Omega News

It's been a slow week for news for RISC OS (and it's rare we say that here on Drobe), but things are picking up again in preparation for the forthcoming RISC OS Southwest Show, so we thought it worth covering a few items.

Omega Deliveries

Alan Gibson of Liquid Silicon today announced he has in the process of shipping the final few systems in their backlog of orders for Omegas. We're glad that people who have been waiting such a long time for a machine will finally get one, although here at Drobe, we're still a bit concerned over certain aspects of the machine's completeness. Alan also says that orders for a machine will arrive "in a few weeks", which is probably an understandable turn-around time for a small manufacturer.

Iyonix Fixes

John Ballance today mentioned on the Iyonix support list that he would be able to perform what's become known as "The Fix", which addresses stability issues on some Iyonixes, at the forthcoming Southwest show, along with the previous PAL update, which fixes reset issues on some machines. You'll have to book, however, as the modifications take a little time. See the Iyonix support list for more details. John also mentions he'll be able to perform the same fixes at the RONWUG user group meeting on Monday 16th Feburary.

If anyone needs further information about the Iyonix fixes at RONWUG (in Sale, Cheshire), please email info@ronwug.org or see the Iyonix support smartgroup.

The usual RONWUG meeting on Wednesday 18th February will also still be going ahead, in addition to John's visit on Monday 16th.

John has also mentioned that he'd like you to email him if you're planning to bring your Iyonix to the South West show for fixes, so that he can get a rough idea of how many systems will be involved.

What will Alan Gibson ship to the customers if they had ordered OMEGAs with XScale and ARMtwister? I'm convinced, they will be bored.

In German "chips" means crisps (the things made out of fried potato slices) as well as computer chips.

Come to think of it, I can think of another country that uses "chips" to mean thin wedges of potato that are then blanched and fried, as well as silicon wafers cut into chunks, other than the UK.

Deepfried anything you like (marsbar, haggis, pizza, teacake) for very acceptable pence in the fryer at the foot of Leith walk.

I recall seeing american tourists asking staff on teh Glasgow underground where they could get a deep fried mars bar, but they're actually hard to find, as most places won't do one as it tends to bugger up the fat. You can get them, just not as widely as popular myth would have people believe.
