Best of 2004 awards results By Chris Williams. Published: 31st Dec 2004, 18:56:45. The grand finale to the year Voting for the RISC OS Best of 2004 awards closed yesterday and now, the results are in. For some categories, you probably could have guessed the results, whereas others have turned out a few surprises. The randomly selected winners of Desktop Repton Plus have also been notified by email, and we'll have copies of Alligata Software's top new game in the post to them soon. And so, on to the moment I'm very sure you've all been waiting for - the results of the public voting, the people's choice of RISC OS in 2004. If you missed the boat and didn't vote, then there's always next year's awards to look forward to. Thanks to everyone who helped us draw up the nominations list, and if you have any suggestions for the 2005 gig, then drop us an email. Of course, a big thank you to everyone who took the time to log in and vote - it's interesting that less than a quarter of our readers regularly log in to read drobe.co.uk. Remember that the aim of the awards is to recognise those who have helped further RISC OS in 2004. We could be here all night if we tried paying tribute to everyone who has contributed since 1998 or earlier. And without further ado, let's open the golden digital envelope to reveal the winners.. In best commercial software Artworks 2 (30%) Runner up: RISC OS Adjust (21%) In best non-commercial software NetSurf (33%) Runner up: Variations (14%), GCCSDK (11%) In best RISC OS hardware product Unipod (58%) Runner up: Iyonix X100 case (11%) In best RISC OS event of 2004 WROCC's Wakefield 2004 (33%) Runner up: SASAUG's South East Show (14%) In best show of ingenuity Home made DIY laptop case (26%) Runner up: Windfall's Flash memory drive for your BBC B (25%) In best general contribution to the platform Martin Wuerthner (62%) Runner up: Drobe.co.uk's Peter Naulls (22%) And finally.. Top own goal Castle-RISCOS Ltd. dispute (54%) Runner up: Vantage users locked out (18%) Percentages are of total votes Congratulations to everyone who won - a more detailed break down of the results will be linked to from here shortly. We also listened to suggestions from readers and also consulted others who have followed RISC OS closely in 2004. Published: 27 Apr 2009 RISC OS 5 pictured running on ARM Cortex-A8 kit Picture exclusive - This grainy photograph shows a port of RISC OS 5, sourced from the RISC OS Open project, running on a Beagleboard - a device powered by a 600MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor with a built-in graphics chip.
