Berty games are back on the block
Ixion screenshotAcornArcade have announced today that they've been given permission to re-release, for free online, classic RISC OS games developed by Tom "Berty" Cooper. Tom's 3D puzzle adventure game Ixion is the first game to be released from AcornArcade website.

"Ixion was originally released in 1992 by Software 42. The game provides a mix of action, role-playing, and puzzle solving, all with some quite tasty looking 3D graphics. The version available here should run fine on anything from a lowly ARM 2 running RISC OS 2 to the latest StrongARM running RISC OS Select", writes 'Arcade hack Jeffrey Lee.

"Expect a full list of games which have been freed of their commercial status to appear over the next few days."

Having peeked at the games list at the top of this interview, fans of Berty can hopefully look forward to seeing the likes of Wavelength and Hamsters available online, as freeware. Tom's games used to be published by Argo Interactive, who are now Argo Group having spun off their ISP side, Freedom2 (aka Argonet), which was subsequently snapped up by Imparo and who, it turns out, ended up owning Tom's software - deep breath.

AcornArcade, once a jewel the crown of the NoughtPointOne empire, was apparently able to clinch their deal with Imparo after Rich Goodwin, a Freedom2 employee, asked nicely. Good stuff.

AcornArcade's free games - including Ixion and other goodies we hadn't realised were online. Terramex? To the flying ballon!

If we can get hold of a copy, we'll see if it runs on the Iyonix under Aemulor Pro :-)

Cheers,

Great news! But does anyone have any news about DarkWood? Bought the full version, but it has never run on RISC OS 4. Any plans to allow it run does anyone know??!!

I have downloaded Ixion but it doesn't work on my Mico+IIyama Pro 410.
I suppose there is a fix for this , but where?
