What is this place?
You've reached the archive of articles and other bits and pieces published by drobe.co.uk - a website for
users of RISC OS and Acorn Computer kit.
Drobe was an online newspaper and community site, although it ceased actively covering the RISC OS scene in September 2009. The website was founded in 1999
and officially launched in October that year as a news portal edited by Peter Price. Chris Williams
took over as editor of the site in 2001. During its heyday Drobe was serving millions of pages of content a year -
some of its readers were RISC OS users and others just curious about the platform's little corner of the computing world.
Numerous writers have kindly contributed articles to the website and hundreds of users registered for accounts to post thousands of comments;
all the content produced since 2001, some 2,400-odd articles, is available online for free. The early material was sadly lost a long time ago
during one of the website's many redesigns.
The archives are maintained by Chris: if you have any comments, can't find a particular article, or have found a fault with the website, please get in touch. The site is hosted by Ian Hawkins.

Star Fighter 3000: The Next Generation was born from the 3D0 version of the original SF3K that was ported back to RISC OS and this year freed from programmers' hard discs for the platform to enjoy, writes Andrew Weston. In this review Andrew weighs up much-improved graphics and sound against playability and stability.

New driver to read and write large USB storage devices
Jeff Doggett has ported a library to create a RISC OS module that can access USB-based FAT32 storage devices greater than 2GB in size, such as memory sticks and Flash cards. Jeff said: "This is just a filing system module - there is no desktop front-end or anything user friendly. It's version 0.01 which should give you some idea that you should try it first on a test drive before letting it loose on anything valuable."
