Well, disagree what you want, but I didn't use that word ;-) "automatic" could include any number up things, and doesn't rule out drag and drop, nor does it have much to do with the fixed paths of Unix, or the relative opacity of installation of Windows apps.

The precise details of how a given object is installed, I think, are something that will have to be worked out by trial and error, and it's probably not worth debating them at this point until we've seen them in action.
