Could someone give an example of such a dependency, please? Is there anything more involved than updating !system?

...

When I got a USB podule from STD it had an installer which would put stuff in various places in !Boot. Except it didn't work, because I didn't have a new enough boot structure. Actually getting a newer boot would actually be quite tricky, since the machine isn't internet connected. But fortunately I found I could just copy stuff to the appropriate places. This is an example of apparent simplicity actually making it more difficult for some users (which is what most of us hate about PCs I guess). So... won't a package manager just end up being another source of frustration?
