I don't see why we could not use the emulation route to move to other platforms. How about adding a way to execute non-ARM binaries under RISC OS. We could simply have additional !RunImage files in the application directories. !RunImageX86 would get executed on systems with an x86 processor (including RiscPCs with a PC card), !RunImageX64 on x86-systems with AMD's 64bit-extensions, !RunImagePPC on PowerPC systems and !RunImage would be executed on emulators wich run on a processor for wich no native binary is present and on native ARM hardware without fast second processors).
