So if we don't get faster chips, what other hardware techniques could be used? Multiple ARM chips? At least they're cheap. Yes, I know Risc OS isn't pre-emptive, but as an intermediate step perhaps RISC OS could run on one, with known-safe jobs passed to the others. Most apps don't need that much power anyway, and those that do (Artworks, video processing etc) could parallelise as appropriate.
