Thank God for Drobe. There's been some breathless reaction to this on Usenet, as well as some snipes at this site for not reporting it instantly without pause for breath. But Chris's analysis is, as ever, spot-on. This is a hopeful sign, but there have been similar pronouncements in the past. I wish both ROL and ROOL well with their cooperative efforts, but the true proof of genuine joint working will be concrete resolution of some of the real issues thrown up by the OS fork. Let's see.
In addition, I suspect that the more pressing problem for both versions of the OS is lack of developer time. More cooperation between the two OS development teams may help in some respects, but it won't cure that.
