One of the points of having a proper theme manager and more configurable gadgets would be that you could easily make your desktop look more or less exactly like RO2 (if you wanted). At the moment, you're pretty much stuck with the default 'granite' set, and altering that is not entirely easy. In my view, a decent set of configure options would enable as much or as little tarting up of the basic desktop objects as you want: flexibility is the key.
