Buh. What an old-fashioned attitude.

True. On a 1GHz system, the overhead for PMT is not significant. But RO already has facilities for PMT, just not at the WIMP task level. What is the point in rewriting the API, risking additional incompatibility? The way in which the OS deals with requests from tasks is a different matter.
