Personally I love the simplicity of drag and drop installation. It beats the pants off the methods used on Windows and Unix. I don't think we need to cater for people who don't understand the concepts of files and directories (as Windows seems to), and like many other RISC OS users I like to know what is going on when I install something. For example, when I get an upgrade to the Iyonix from Castle via the update watcher, I always open the directory first to see what it does, then make backups of the appropriate directories before launching the installation (yes, I know the installer makes backups automatically, but I like to play doubly safe). So I would hope at the very least that a packager will enable the user to find out what it is going to do before installation, and perhaps where necessary it should make automatic backups too. Oh, and leave a log of what it has done. Just in case we can't trust the backout process. Or in case it fails part way through. Perhaps I've learned from hard experience not to trust new software until I've seen it work!
