That is true. I'm a bit of an audiophile, and it's very very hard for me to tell the difference between a FLAC (lossless codec) and LAME (lossy) when using headphones. Play it on my hi-fi, and LAME's 256kbps output is noticably worse than the source file. I think when people say that MP3 removes stuff that humans can't hear, they're not *quite* right. They remove stuff that humans can't hear when played through an average rendering stage :)
