Select 4i2 apps will run on A9homePublished: 1st May 2007, 22:51:34 | Permalink | Printable
Welcome back Mr MaestroIngenious A9home users have spotted that many of the applications included in this week's Select 4 release will work on their 32bit-only machines. Software including the latest Paint, and other apps from Maestro to Meteors can be loaded onto the ARM9-powered computers from AdvantageSix - as this screenshot shows. It is thought this is the first time some of the OS-bundled applications have been able to run on the A9home.

The Select 4 RISC OS 6 release 2 documentation says the OS release is only suitable for A7000 and RiscPC-class kit, although the desktop software appears to be 26/32bit neutral - allowing it to run on the A9home. The little blue computers cannot load the RISC OS 6 kernel, although its 32bit RISC OS 4.42 appears to be a close enough cousin for the programs to work.
Meanwhile users have crossed their fingers in hope that an operating system update for the A9home is nearing completion. They say they have been waiting for a small number of issues to be addressed, and hope to run a full version of Select 4 at some point.
