Iyonix compatibility database online

By Chris Williams. Published: 25th Nov 2002, 17:39:19 | Permalink | Printable

Let's see what works

The thought of having to abandon their favourite software is a big fear for RISC OS users hoping to upgrade to a new machine. The Castle Iyonix is a RISC OS machine unlike all others in existance and so one would naturally be worried about old software. A software compatibility database is always a good plan (the Acorn StrongARM upgrade had one, RISC OS 4 has one too) and the announcement of such a listing for the XScale powered Iyonix was inevitable.

32bit coverage on drobe.co.uk As pointed out in a press release sent to drobe.co.uk, www.iyonix.com/software/ is now the home to a database that lists Iyonix compatible software and users (or enthusiasts as Castle put it) are welcome to browse the site and check which packages are compatible and which are going to be compatible. RISC OS software developers should contact developers@iyonix.com if they wish to add their products to the current listing.

Also, we're told to expect further announcements about the Iyonix PC in the coming weeks.

I see the little logo to indicate the software is "Iyonix OK" features the RISCOS Ltd cog wheel logo...So is the "Third Party Investor" that was talked about by them a little while ago Castle? It would explain there silence about RISCOS 5

Yes I saw on one of the RO5 screenshots the Switcher was the Select cog, but on others there was the RO3 Acorn and the Iyonix cyan blob logo....

Something which disturbed me was a comment on csam that Castle don't have the RO5 source, so don't really see how they can intermingle it with Select (or even develop it past it's present 'alpha' status).

I'm more disturbed that you believe everything you read on usenet, saying that Castle don't have the source to RISC OS 5 is incorrect.

That's an interesting subsite. It even has HAL details for the Iyonix. Remind me to post an article about it.

I wish the rest of the site was a slick as the flash splash page. Also, is it just me, or is there no way to access these pages from the front page?

The content is there so I really don't care what the website looks like, provided it isn't some kind of 'My first steps in HTML' jobbie.

And things like the 32bit pages should e linked to from the frontpage, I agree.
