Aemulor continues user group mini-tour
Pushing boundaries in terms of the definition of 'software news' we know but the Aemulor.com team have emailed us saying they'll be at the Surrey and Sussex Acorn usergroup this Monday (10th March), more details here apparently. Aemulor.com hope to spend the evening "discussing the history of Aemulor, some of the technical aspects of 26-bit emulation, and a demonstration of the software on an Iyonix PC."
Of course, we were more interested in where the actual Aemulor product is. To fire-fight possible claims that Aemulor is "vapourware" (their suggestion), the Aemulor team released a time limited demo for Iyonix users to try out. After voicing our concerns to Aemulor.com over the weekend, Neil Spellings of Aemulor.com swiftly replied, calming our fears maybe.
"No problems", states Neil, "we just want to nail a few outstanding compatibility problems caused by some features not being supported (such as 26-bit exit handlers and full re-entrancy)".
Neil underlines the fact that they won't release their 26 bit emulator software until they're happy with it. We're just so impatient, aren't we?
Freeware updates
Chris Terran has updated his EXIFinfo software that uses extra information embedded into JPEG images by digital cameras to do all sorts of tricks including automatic gallery generation. PDF, the popular PDF file viewer (you don't say) by Colin Granville, has been suitable tweaked and upgraded to xpdf2.01. Email fetching app POPstar, a drobe.co.uk favourite, has been updated and now available from author Joseph Heenan's new website - you'll also need 32 bit versions of SysLog and SocketWatch.

Out of all the Unix Porting Project's ports, the recent addition of Colloquy, a powerful lua powered talker server, is one we like a lot. Ok, ok, so the drobe.co.uk editors know Rob Kendrick, the original author of Colloquy, and it was ported by drobe.co.uk editor Peter Naulls - it's still a lot of fun to run on your RISC OS machine for friends to connect to and chat on.
Also, WimpBasic user support site wimpbasic.org have announced that 80% of their hosted software is compatible with Aemulor (running on an Iyonix). Chris Morison's popular Organiser software is now 32 bit compatible. And for those who subject themselves to linux and miss RISC OS, the RISC OS-filer-clone-but-under-the-monster-that-is-X11-ROX-Filer has been updated. And also in answer to people questioning the Source attribute at the top of each article, it refers to the organisation who 'owns' the article. So if we were to re-publish, say, an article that originally appeared in AcornUser, we'll attribute to the source to them instead. So there.
