libSDL for me and you By Chris Williams. Published: 12th May 2003, 23:48:25 | Permalink | PrintableNow we can all port some games Gaming SDL has been in the news recently what with the Unix Porting Project taking the lid off the SDL gaming pot and then teaming up with Neil White to release more games. SDL is a cross platform library to make life easier for games developers.
And you too can join in this ported game lark, now that Peter Naulls (of the UPP and also a drobe.co.uk editor) has released the RISC OS port of the SDL library used to bring us toys like Heroes and SDLBomber. The source code to the ported library will shortly be available via the upstream libsdl.org CVS server as source changes are absorbed.
Example game source code, build scripts and documentation are provided. The ported SDL library was developed by Alan Buckley and based upon SDL 1.2.6. Let us know how you get on, especially if you develop an original game with the general purpose SDL library.
