32 bit Textease plus graphs, music, debugging and moreCutting through the recent hardware news and hype, there's still software to be had.
Textease, Softease's ace word processor and DTP package for educational users, has been bug fixed and recompiled to be 32 bit compatible. Gary Locock, a junior school network manager, broke the news on usenet and the upgrades to the latest RISC OS version (5.92) of Textease can be found on the Softease website.
One of Softease's developers apparently drove over to Gary's junior school in Coventry in order to borrow a RiscPC to help track down a bug.
"It is great to see this committment to our platform from a major educational publisher", noted Gary in his posting. Indeed, we're well aware that Softease primarily sell their educational products to many mainstream computer platforms. However, we're very pleased to see effort is still being made to provide support for the remaining RISC OS powered schools, the education market being a sector Acorn were once proudly dominate of, depending on who you talk to.
Tau to meet you
We last reported on Tau last month when Dr. Peter Killworth re-released Tim Birks' highly recommended graph plotting application, now open sourced. Now, following some user suggestions, Peter's updated Tau further with the ability to edit invalid values as well as other tweaks.
Amp and friends
Dave O'Shea's website
Dave O'Shea has 32 bitted his desktop music playing app Amp, which can use WinAMP skins to customise its windows. Dave's also released for the first time psql, an app which as a client connects to any remote postgres server to execute SQL commands. There's also the handy debgugging Listvars tool which can list the variables in a running BASIC application (although it crashes for us).
"How about a nice game of Solitaire?"
Solitaire for RISC OS
Solitaire, the classic board game reproduced digitally for RISC OS by Ian Macfarlane has been made RISC OS 5 compatible and contains lot of new features such as customisable game displays.
