Emergency Drobe downtime imminent

Bye bye washu.prowl.org
Drobe logoAfter serving at least 2.8 million pages over almost 360 days, the drobe.co.uk servers are taking an unexpected but well earned break for about a day. Drobe is currently hosted by the Prowl network which unfortunately suffered a critical server failure earlier today.

Drobe webmaster Ian Hawkins has said he will be powering down washu.prowl.org and sasami.prowl.org for essential maintenance and upgrades at 9pm tonight. Everything should hopefully be restored by sometime tomorrow. Sasami, which serves Drobe's webpages and runs Suse Linux, will also be treated to a fresh Debian install.

We hope to be back with you shortly, thank you for reading Drobe.

Not literally 'Powered by ARM' then?

No matter how hard you try you won't be The Icon Bar this time. TIB leads where others follow when it comes to server downtime. ;)

PS. Anyone threatening to use the word "unscheduled" will be dealt with appropriately.

Hello. You'll see Drobe appear and disappear for a little bit whilst I do some apache changes.

I think we've seen Drobe disappear for quite some time now :-)

So why isn't Drobe running on multiple servers with automatic failover facilities? Don't you realise what an important site it is ;-)

I think you are confusing Drobe with The IconBar...

No, I was thinking of Drobe ;-)

Seriously it would be interesting to see the stats on the sites. I also think the traffic on the acorn usergroups seems to have been increasing (or maybe that is just my perception....

They host several other sites not inside iconbar.com too, however. The until recently, hosted STD's site, for example.

Yeah, I know, but it is harder to list them because there are loads on lots of domains... http://www.iswe.net/ http://riscos.me.uk/ http://www.acornarcade.com/ http://www.iconbar.co.uk/ etc etc...

I still wouldn't be surprised if Drobe had more traffic :P

Oh, but I am surprised that nunfetishist hasn't mentioned pepperfish yet. It's just /so/ unlike him. ;-)

At least I don't have a Lua icon as my avatar, where you have your skip with a lawnmower motor as yours. :)
