RISC OS 5.06 Release

By Peter Naulls. Published: 12th May 2004, 22:19:05 | Permalink | Printable

Bugs fixes and improvements

32bit logoCastle today made RISC OS 5.06 available for their Iyonix machines. None of the changes are particularly exciting, although they might be significant if you were affected by bugs in previous versions.

One of the main improvements is updates to the USB stack. Castle today told drobe.co.uk that a number of important bugs have been fixed, which will improve the range of devices supported. Related to this are improved handling (or disabling) of debounce events, which allows certain types of USB KVM and PS2 adapters to be used.

Also present are improvements to the nVidia support. This is to allow use of yet another of the proliferation of versions of similar-but-not-quite-the-same graphics cards that manufacturers like ATI and nVidia are so good at producing.

Castle also state that changes in the C compiler which broke !Edit and EtherK statistics have been rectified.

Works nicely, indeed. Had slight problems with my KVM but that was due to using a too old HID. Thanks! Good job, Castle!

Wow, the speed of RISC OS 5 development is astonishing!

It's going to be unrecognisable before we know it!

fylfot, who's rarely sarcastic. Honest.

Pity 5.06 didn't arrive, say 3 days earlier though... GAG-News issue 73 (that's the German RISC OS magazine) went to print on last Saturday and was sent out yesterday afternoon (yes, I have a very capable printing shop here). Thus I wasn't able to mention 5.06 in there but on the other hand now I have something for 74 already ... perhaps even 5.07 ...

Is it just me, or did anyone else's OmniClient SMB mounts stop working after applying the new ROM image?
