RiscCAD returns to author By Chris Williams. Published: 3rd Nov 2004, 12:18:03 | Permalink | Printable Welcome back Software developer David Buck has taken back control of development, sales and marketing of RiscCAD from dealer APDL. Dave commented in his announcement: "May I take this opportunity to thank APDL for their efforts in the last few years in promoting RiscCAD. I am not yet sure what I will do with the software, but I will support existing users who have any queries." David began writing computer aided design (CAD) software in the 1980s, for his Master Compact, and then later for his Arthur powered A310 Archimedes. "RiscCAD does not have as much assembler in it as people may think, probably about 20K, so it should not be difficult to make it 32bit. It may already run on the 32 bit OS, as the code if fairly simple and does not do anything 'naughty'," Dave told drobe.co.uk. "However, I have been out of the RISC OS scene for about 4 years, so I can't say for certain, and I will need to do some research. "As for what is planned for it. I'm not sure. Welcome news indeed. As you may recall, we use RiscCAD for most of our architectural work, occasionally migrating to other systems in the office such as AutocCAD, VectorWorks, and Microstation. Time and time again, we find RiscCAD faster, simpler and easier to use than all else. Yes, it does have its limits, but it has stood up well. We were seriously considering migrating to the Linux platform as RiscCAD, we were told, wouldn't carry onto the Iyonix with great improvement. The software could really do with the shot in the arm, (no pun intended), that the Iyonix's speed could adminster. I won't bore you withour wish-list just yet, it's too large! I just want to reassure you that any work you're willing to put into RiscCAD would be most appreciated and certainly purchased by us.
