'Lucky' user wins STD stuff, Iyonix

Not going to ebay it shock
James Scholes at Wakefield 2003
Happy: James, from Wakefield 2003
We just might have found the luckiest RISC OS user of the year. Perhaps. Less than a week after winning free stuff from STD, James Scholes was stunned when he learned yesterday that he'd won a free Iyonix from Castle.

After bagging a DigiFlash interface in STD's Christmas raffle earlier this month, James, 21, was shocked to receive an email from Castle telling him he'd won the Iyonix, complete with 512M RAM and a 120G hard disc. James says he entered the free prize draw, hosted on the Iyonix website, at the end of October and reckons he was due some good news.

Although he says he won't be eBay'ing the new machine, he might sell off his RiscPC as he mostly uses RISC OS for music composition, email and chatting on IRC. Fingers crossed for that 32bit MIDI work, then.

IYONIX, suggested donation £600.
Oh well... there's always next year. I'll stick with my Pocket ROS from STD.

or maybe not next year. The "Win an IYONIX" page has gone. :( Maybe they'll launch a new computer which we can win next year...?

Best of fun with your new toys James :)

Let's hope liquid gets the MIDI module porting ready soon and better still let's hope for a great new audio or music app taking advantage of IYX' specs somewhere in the near future. Maybe a job for RCI ? ;)

Well done James.

I don't personally know you, but knowing you as a RISC OS user / enthusiast makes me very pleased in a way much more than one of those big "Lotto" winners that you never hear about!!

Have heaps of fun for Christmas!

Ah, I thought you were avoiding me! ;-) It was a good show. But it was a night off from rehearsals, not coding, though :-)

Right, I tested if PlaySound worked, it did with 2 minor problems, needs a 32bit AMPlayer module copying into the !PlaySound dir and MP3s need to be type 1AD rather than BF8.

So now I need suggestions, what new things can I do on not-my new Iyonix?

Anyhow, today, I won pocket RISC OS too! Haven't won anything non-RO related this season, so it must be a very specific run of fortune.

In reply to Mavhc:

You could sit by your own computer and admire it from afar.
