Desktop Repton Plus prize winners

Tricky puzzle classic will keep them occupied for all of 2005

Desktop Repton Plus screenshotCongratulations to the winners of copies of Desktop Repton Plus - the game's now in the post. Three drobe.co.uk readers, who voted in the Best of 2004 awards, were chosen at random last month to bag CDs of Alligata's top new game.

Ike Busser from The Netherlands, Jeremy Brayshaw from Essex and Christopher Joseph from Oxford will soon be diving into Repton's retro world of diamond collecting, monster hunting and boulder dodging.

Jeremy told us: "I've never won anything in my life before. That's great - I used to play Repton on the Beeb micro many years ago, but haven't seen it for oh so long now."

Desktop Repton Plus, launched last month, sees the return of the legendary Repton 1, 2 and 3 games to the RISC OS desktop with new graphics and levels. You can also now order the game and receive copies via email download. Review to follow, stay tuned.

Picture exclusive - This grainy photograph shows a port of RISC OS 5, sourced from the RISC OS Open project, running on a Beagleboard - a device powered by a 600MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor with a built-in graphics chip. The port, developed by Jeffrey Lee with help from Uwe Kall and ROOL staff, is seen as a major breakthrough for the shared-source project as it proves the OS can be ported to new hardware without the need for a large team of engineers.
